Drink Responsibly

Enjoy your gift – Drink Responsibly

If you have received a glassware gift from Forever Crystal which contains a bottle of alcohol we hope you enjoy using the glassware and the accompanying drink. Whilst drinking can be fun, it’s still important not to overdo it. Always ensure that you drink responsibly and stick to the government’s guidelines for the daily consumption of alcohol units. By doing this, we can all stay safe and protect our health.

Size of glasses

Unfortunately there is no standard size for drinking glassware. Wine glasses, gin and prosecco glasses, whisky tumblers and champagne flutes all come in different shapes and sizes. It is therefore difficult to give rule of thumb guidance on how much it is safe to drink based on glass size.

Units of alcohol

The strength of an alcoholic drink is expressed as a percentage of alcohol by volume (% ABV) displayed on the can or bottle. For example, wine that says "12% ABV" or "alcohol volume 12%" means 12% of the volume of that drink is pure alcohol.

Using units is a simpler way of understanding how much alcohol you are consuming. One unit equals 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol, which is around the amount of alcohol the average adult can process in an hour. Typically a 250ml glass of wine will contain 2.8 – 3.5 units of alcohol, 11% - 14% ABV (Department of Health),. More information on alcohol units can be found at Alcohol units - NHS (www.nhs.uk/live-well/alcohol-support/calculating-alcohol-units/).

To make sure you don’t overdo it, be aware of the number of units you drink
